A sestina is a type of poem that has 6 stanzas with 6 lines each and one final stanza with 3 lines. Each line has 1 of six end words that change places through each of the six stanzas so that that it never falls on the same line twice. They are also optionally followed by a final three line stanza with two of the keywords on each line in any order. Because the poem repeats the same 6 words at the end of each line in different positions each time it really evokes feelings of repetition and paints images of a fragmented reality. They are also notoriously hard to write and, because of this, often dip into the abstract. You can see an example of one here: http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/sestina/
Aster of course comes from the flower of the same name. They represent patience and love but since just about all flower meanings share this I don't pay too much attention to it. I picked Aster because of the assonance/alliteration between the "a", "s", and "t" in both sestina and aster. It makes for a very 'crisp' sounding name I think.
Sestina Aster is also the name of the main character in a YA book I want to write someday.
My mule, Nell Oroboros, gets her name from the lead charecter in Neal Stephenson'sThe Diamond Age (A girl who finds power and enlightenment through her escapes into fantasy) and the symbol of an ouroboros, which is that of a snake eating its own tail. The ouroboros represents the cyclical nature of time and also repetition.
Sorry if I talked your ear off. If you ask an English teacher about naming choice expect a long winded answer.
Edit: Took out the description on what my book is to be about because I am paranoid and have been taught to be a little more guarded with that kind of thing.

Sestina, I like that a lot. My name is entirely fabricated. Aarkz is just something I made up one day a while back and have used to name several characters over the course of many years. Xerverc is an adaptation of "Merc" which is something my friends would call me as a sort of nickname in high school (we were nerdy like that.) I've also used this name on several characters.
Renka was a character from an old (90's?) manga series of the same name. Also a type of flower in the realm of Budha (I think, it's been years since I remembered what it was). Lost was just part of another old name I used as a game name. Eventually I just combined them together and it's just stuck for years. Usually right it as Renkalost.
